Alopecia and the Challenge of Hair Replacement for Women

By: Travis Keeler

"You can't judge a book by its cover."

"Beauty's only skin deep."

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

Hackneyed proverbs like these are ingrained in our society just as are ideas of what constitutes "beauty". As women, like it or not, we put a value on how we look. Celebrity magazines constantly flaunt ideal beauty at us from the supermarket shelves: movie stars with the facade of perfect skin, perfect bodies and perfect hair (generally accomplished through air brushing, photo-cropping and Hair Extensions.)

There's no keeping up with that, and most of us realize it's what's inside that makes us beautiful. But when real women unexpectedly lose their hair through some medical crisis or simply because it begins to fall out, the boundaries of what's acceptable to us begins to shift. Hair Replacement experts understand that this hair loss can truly change the way we feel about ourselves. Our hair is the one thing that truly identifies us as women. Hair makes us feel feminine. We use it, hide behind it, change it and wear it as an accessory. We're often so attached to our hair that we let it define our beauty. So hair loss can be a truly devastating blow to self-esteem. Fortunately, according to hair replacement experts, there are many options for women today who experience hair loss. Wigs, Hair Extensions and Hair Systems can resolve this problem either temporarily or permanently.

So what can cause hair loss in women?

• Chemotherapy and radiation are major culprits causing temporary hair loss.

• Alopecia Arcana, or excessive hair loss, caused by medical factors, including: stress, fungal infection, diabetes, hormone changes and medication.

• Traction Alopecia - caused by hairstyles like corn rows, pigtails and braids that put undue stress on hair. Scarring caused by tension or use of harsh chemicals can cause permanent hair loss.

• Nervous pulling out of hair can cause patchy hair loss.

At any one time, there are around 100,000 hairs on our heads. We shed somewhere around 100 every day. Normally, new ones grow in right behind it. But any of the above factors can inhibit that hair growth, causing more hair to fall out than is being replaced. When women lose hair it is quite different from the male pattern baldness we see every day. Women lose hair in patches or get thinner all over. Wigs used to be the only hair replacement solution for this. But Hair Replacement experts are constantly developing new and better Hair Systems and hair extensions that are more breathable and wearable than old fashioned wigs. There are also new hair systems that allow what remains of a woman's own hair to be pulled through a hair system to volumize her hair. Hair extensions now come with removable clips for those not interested in the adhesive used in hair systems.

Hair systems, or human hair pieces built on delicate, virtually invisible lace caps, come in all shapes and sizes for women. If patchy hair loss is your problem, either hair extensions or small hair systems can be designed by a skilled hair replacement expert to disguise the problem while the hair is growing back.

There are many hair systems advertised on the internet. But be careful. All hair systems are not alike. The hair systems that come in a measure-your-own-scalp package over the internet will most likely be ill-fitting and disposable after three or four months. They are not cheap either, even though the end result will look that way. Look instead for one of the high-quality, custom hair replacement companies that has local hair replacement clinics and hair replacement experts on staff to help you custom-fit your hair system or hair extensions. These are more expensive, but in the end, it's difficult to put a price on self-esteem. If a woman can get through radiation treatments with her self-esteem intact, then the price of a hair system is low, indeed.

What can you expect when you use a hair system? If you find a great hair replacement company with local clinics, you will be fitted with a hair system by an expert who works with dozens of clients every week. After carefully measuring the area requiring hair replacement, technicians will manufacture a virtually invisible human hair system that is breathable and light. It will be attached with an adhesive to your scalp. Depending on your body chemistry and the amount you sweat, this hair system will stay in place for two to three months before requiring re-adjusting. The hair replacement technician will then style and color your hair system to match your own hair.

Hair sheds from hair systems and must be periodically re-knotted on. Hair replacement technicians will teach you how to touch up the adhesive on your own in case it comes loose around the edges. The same is true of hair extensions, whether attached to hair by adhesive or with clips. But, meanwhile, as you give your hair time to grow back in, you can live your life worry free. You can swim, bathe, exercise and do all the things you'd do with your own hair. But most of all, when you look at yourself in the mirror, you'll see you, and not someone you don't recognize. And the value of that kind of peace of mind? Priceless.

TIPS ON HAIR CARE PRODUCTS

Rinse. Lather. Repeat. Sounds easy enough, but are you using the right product for your hair?Bored kids read cereal boxes. Smart women read shampoo bottles. While products like hair color and styling gels command greater attention, choosing the wrong shampoo can have a serious impact on how your hair looks. You'll never achieve the result you want if you buy the wrong shampoo-or use the right one incorrectly.

It all starts with shampooing frequency. And with a penchant for cleanliness, Americans always tend to overwash their hair.

"The hair and scalp should be cleaned, on average, every other day," says Dr. Andrea Lynn Cambio, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City.

But women with exceptionally dry hair, such as African-Americans, need to reduce their shampooing frequency. Conversely, if you have incredibly oily hair, daily shampooing may be required to cut the grease.

"The consequence of overdoing it is stripping the hair of sebum [oil]," Dr. Cambio tells Stellure.com. "This causes the hair to look dull, feel coarse, be prone to static electricity and be a styling nuisance."

Shampoo & Your 'do By definition, shampoo is designed to remove dirt and excess sebum from the scalp and hair. Sebum is necessary for hair health. It is secreted by sebaceous glands, found in skin all over our bodies, including the scalp. These glands provide healthy lubrication to our skin and hair. Scientists estimate that the average woman produces approximately 1 ounce of sebum every 100 days, so it's a substance worth protecting!

If you have oily hair then your sebaceous glands secrete too much sebum, and you'll want to select a shampoo designed to control it. If you have dry hair, your glands secrete too little sebum, and you'll want to choose a shampoo that provides extra moisture. If you have "normal" hair, sebum production is how Goldilocks described her final bowl of porridge: "Just right!"

While Goldilocks may have been a porridge expert, it's hard to say whether she knew how to choose the right shampoo for her specific hair type. Gentle shampoos, like baby shampoo, remove the bare minimum. Harsher shampoos, like dandruff shampoos and those that are made especially for oily hair, are manufactured to cleanse more thoroughly and remove more sebum. Problems typically occur when, for example, a woman with oily hair accidentally buys a shampoo intended for dry hair. She may not discover why her scalp has become an oil slick until she checks the shampoo bottle.

Understanding Labels As with food products, ingredients in shampoos are listed by the amounts contained in the bottle, in descending order of weight. The higher up on the list, the more of the ingredient in the shampoo.

Normally, the first ingredient in shampoo is water. If it, alone, could cleanse the hair, we wouldn't need shampoo. Water, however, cannot remove oil, sebum or product buildup, so manufacturers must add detergent agents which are known as "surfactants."

Surfactants cleanse the hair and create lather. Manufacturers can choose from inexpensive or pricey surfactants, and these are what will determine the quality of your shampoo. Cheap surfactants, such as sodium lauryl sulfate and ammonium lauryl sulfate, are popular among manufacturers because they keep down costs. You'll find these particular surfactants in generic, supermarket, drugstore and certain mass-market brands. (They're also the chemicals most commonly associated with eye irritation.) The problem, however, is that these surfactants are harsh on hair, stripping it of oil and causing hair color to fade more quickly.

The more expensive "designer" or salon brands contain more expensive surfactants, such as sodium cocoyl isethionate and methyl cocoyl taurate (sometimes labeled simply as "coconut oil" or "fatty acids"), cocamidopropyl betaine and cocamidopropylamine oxide. Yes, they're certainly a mouthful, but they are also nondrying, much more gentle on the hair and tend to work well regardless of whether or not you have hard or soft water. They're also more expensive for manufacturers to use, so that's why you'll pay more for a bottle of shampoo. (Many manufacturers compromise, mixing low-cost sodium lauryl sulfate with a coconut-oil surfactant. This can work well.)

Some shampoos can contain detanglers and anti-static agents, which function exactly as their names imply. A common agent to look for is "quaternary ammonium."

"Humectants" act like tiny sponges, attracting and holding water. You'll find them in shampoos for dry, damaged or color-treated hair. Commonly used humectants include glycerin, sorbitol, sodium lactate and hyaluronic acid.

"Conditioning agents" help soften the hair and allow it to retain moisture. Look for amino acids, collagen, panthenol, elastin and proteins on ingredient lists.

"Thickening" or "volumizing" shampoos increase bulk and improve manageability. They contain ingredients like hydroxyethyl cellulose, gum arabic, guar, xanthan and chitin.

"Preservatives," such as methylparaben, quaternium-15, methylisothiazolinone and propylparaben, help prevent the shampoo from becoming contaminated by mold or bacteria. "All-natural" shampoos that contain no preservatives have a tendency to "spoil" if not used within their designated shelf life.

Never buy a shampoo based on its fragrance, which is no reflection of a shampoo's quality. It's only one more ingredient manufacturers use to convince you to buy their products. (Who doesn't open the cap and sniff before buying a shampoo?)

What's Best for You? Since each of us has different needs, experiment with different shampoos to determine which ones make your hair most manageable.

Many women fail to take their hairstylists' recommendations on shampoo, assuming the stylist is "ripping them off" or "trying to sell them something" so the salon can make more money. In reality, stylists know that salon-quality shampoos are generally superior to their drugstore counterparts. If you trust your stylist, it's worth taking her advice. The worst-case scenario: You won't like the product, and you can express your disappointment to her.

If budget is a problem and you simply cannot bear the thought of spending $10 to $15 for a single bottle of shampoo, dilute the $3 brand you're currently buying (one part water to two parts shampoo). This will somewhat reduce the harshness; but is still not the best for your hair.

Determining Which Types of Hair Loss Treatments Are For You

By: Gonzalez Eliezer

With the wide array of hair loss treatments available to individuals these days, one may wonder just which treatment is right for them. Some are short-term in nature whereas others are more permanent. There are a few ways to determine which types of lost hair treatments are right for you and which ones are best left to others who may be battling hair loss.

One consideration to keep in mind is whether you want a quick fix or a long-term solution. Some items such as hairpieces and hair creams will provide a quick fix however they may not work as well for the long term. On the other hand, certain lost hair treatments such as hair transplant surgeries and oral medications may prevent the loss of hair or cover up a bald area on your head for the long haul. When considering the different options, it is best to determine whether you want it to last a lifetime or be a temporary solution to the hair loss problem.

Another factor to consider in order to determine which type of treatment is best for you is in the case of what you want the treatment to accomplish. Certain treatments for loss of hair will only prevent future loss of hair whereas others will aid in re-growing the hair that was initially lost. By determining what outcome you are searching for you will better be able to select the best type of hair treatment product or surgical intervention.

There may also be certain risks involved with treatments for loss of hair, all depending on what type of treatment you obtain. For example, treatments such as oral medications and hair transplant surgeries always have the possibility of side effects occurring. Although the chance of side effects will vary depending on the individual and treatment sought, the risk is always there. However, for other types of treatments such as hairpieces or cover up creams, the risks may be much less. It is important to review all of the possible risks to determine if this is the right treatment to pursue.

Lastly, cost is an additional factor to keep in mind when perusing the available treatments for loss of hair. You may find that obtaining a hair transplant procedure is well out of your financial means but acquiring a hairpiece may be possible. In addition, consider whether the treatment products will need to be purchased a few times or on a frequent basis as this too may add up in price. Since many of us live on a budget these days, it is important to inquire about the cost of the various treatment methods. This is simply another factor which must be addressed when reviewing your various hair loss treatment options and trying to choose one which will work best for you.

BUYING THE RIGHT HAIR DRYER

BUYING THE RIGHT HAIR DRYER

BUYING THE RIGHT HAIR DRYERBy: hairdryer

When purchasing a hair dryer you may want to first take a few minutes to consider all the different types available. There are many different styles and types on the market today to choose from that it makes sense to shop the variety before making the final decision.

Depending on your individual needs you want to take some time to see which of the many different hair dryers would be suitable for your hair type. The different structures of hair like for example curly hair, thin or coarse-hair are just one important fact to be considered when choosing a hair dryer. Even your favorite hairstyle may play a role when choosing the right dryer for hair styling.

If you are a person who loves to travel or who has to travel quite frequently for business, you may take a look at the styles available that are suitable to travelers. Many dryers are made with retractable cords that are ideal for traveling.

In order to save space, the wall mount dryer units become more and more popular with many people. These units allow you to keep your hair dryer handy at all times, while saving drawer and cabinet space. You may find some of these units in finer hotels and luxurious resorts. There is no reason however why you should not have your own unit at home. They can be fixed securely and safely to your bathroom wall away from water and wet places.

Here are 3 points to keep in mind when shopping for a hair dryer:

1. Don't ever buy a used hair dryer. This item is often displayed in second hand stores and yard sales. As with all electrical items you need to be cautious when buying second hand. If you have to use your hair dryer daily (or more than once in a day), it is always safer to buy a brand new model.

2. To keep your hair healthy and vibrant, when styling with a hair dryer, keep your hair conditioned regularly. Use a good conditioner! This will help you to keep your hair shiny and prevents hair from getting brittle. This is important especially when using chemicals such as hair colorings. Always use a moisturizing shampoo along with your conditioner. This will help to restore the needed moisture for your hair. It will help to make your hair soft and healthier looking. You may choose one with a natural blend of herbs such as chamomile, rosemary and nettle. These ingredients are some of the best natural herbs known to keep hair healthy and strong.

3. Before buying your next hair dryer take a look at the website shown below and just spend a few minutes and compare the different models. As mentioned earlier, consider your type of hair and your hairstyle when choosing the model that will best fit your lifestyle and your hair. Some will dry your hair faster with higher heat settings than others. The advantage of this is that you can dry your hair quickly. The disadvantage is that it will also tend to dry your hair out a little faster.

No matter if you are a person that travels often or if you are a person that needs to save some drawer or counter space, there is something for everybody.

Quick Intro on Hair Loss

By: Raki

You do not need to worry about wearing lace wigs if you are losing between 50-100 hair a day, it is considered normal for people to lose that much in a day anyways, and you'll notice if you have long hair. Losing more than that like in clumps would mean a different problem. But gradual loss of hair as early as puberty to very late in life is common.

For men, it is not uncommon to see the crown of the head exposed with the hair only around the ears and to the back of the head that is why some resort to wearing lace wigs. This is the result of the gradual loss of hair starting at the front of the scalp hairline and forehead and the loss moves gradually to the top of the head.

If it is from the forehead to top for men, for women it starts from the crown. But many women nowadays wear lace wigs for fashion not only due to thinning hair. Some movie celebrities popularized lace wigs for fashion, as you can do to it what you wouldn't dream of doing on to your real hair.

Some generally thought that hair loss is hereditary. Approximately 95 percent of men and 70 percent of women with thinning hair can attribute it to hereditary condition inherited from the mother or father side of the family but more often than not it is caused by other factors like chemicals, poisons and some sort of medical treatment and stress.

The most common cause of loss of hair in people is iron deficiency which can easily be identified and can be treated, by medication and proper diet. Lack of iron has long been suspected of contributing to hair loss but a recent major French study on the effects of nutritional supplements has confirmed the link between iron deficiency and hair loss

Hair loss can also be caused by prescription drugs and some of them cause shedding of hair.

While it has not been definitely verified, emotional trauma that causes stress is another factor in hair loss. Stress from sudden weight loss can also cause hair loss. If it is stress that causes it, remove the stress and it's cause and that should stop the hair loss.

The body's process of regenerating includes renewal of hair. New hair grows in place of the ones that fell out. Though natural, it may be accelerated by a number of factors. Some temporary, like in case of a pregnant woman undergoing hormonal change, and some are more permanent where the only option would be wearing something like a lace wig.

Lace Wigs of Choice provides the most comprehensive collection ofinformation about lace wigs and other various hair pieces. And for a quick introduction on wigs in general please check out A Quick Introduction to Wigs

Propecia can help you restore your hair and keep them healthy!

By: Brown Sarah

Propecia - Treatment for Male Patten Baldness
The most common hair loss process in men is commonly known as male pattern baldness. It can affect teenagers as well as men in their 30s or older. The main cause of this type of baldness in men is genetic, but other factors also play their role to make men bald. Propecia pills provide a treatment option to men who are suffering from baldness.

About Propecia and its active ingredient
Propecia is an oral prescription pill, which is used to treat male pattern baldness. It is available in more than forty countries worldwide. The main ingredient in Propecia is Finasteride, which is also its generic name.

Androgenetic alopecia is another name for male pattern baldness and it is linked to testosterone, which is the main male sex hormone. When certain processes in the body are disrupted, this hormone gets converted into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in more levels than normal. DHT causes weakening of the hair follicles which in turn causes men to go bald.

How does Propecia work?
Propecia works in the body by stopping the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone. Bald men normally have higher DHT levels in parts of scalp where there are bald patches than in other parts of the body. Propecia helps restore this balance.

The daily dosage of Propecia lowers DHT levels in the scalp and stops hair loss. In addition, it also helps in hair re-growth. However, if hair starts growing in other parts of the body, then it may possibly be a side effect and needs medical attention. Propecia is specifically designed for hair re-growth on head only.

How to take dosages of Propecia?
Propecia is available in tablet form in the strength of 1mg. It should be taken once in a day or as recommended by the doctor. The doctor who prescribes you Propecia will generally provide detailed information on the dosage to follow when you do a consultation. You can also get information about Propecia online from the numerous sources that provide you both information and online consultation facility.

You can take Propecia dosage before or after taking food, as there are no food restrictions relating to this baldness treatment pill. However, you should not take overdose, as it may cause complications. It is always better to follow the recommendations of your doctor.

Propecia is available online and you can easily buy it after doing an online consultation. The process is quite simple and requires you to provide your personal and medical details in an online consultation form. Your details are then reviewed by a registered doctor, who issues a prescription based on your suitability for the medication. This prescription allows you to buy Propecia online.

Are there any side effects?
There are some side effects of Propecia, as is quite obvious with any prescription drug. Men taking dosages of Propecia are likely to suffer temporary erection problems such as difficulty in achieving an erection, low sex desire, and low semen volume. These side effects usually disappear when the treatment is stopped. However, if you experience any major discomfort during the treatment, you should consult your GP. You can also contact an online clinic for any necessary help.

Who should not take Propecia?
Women should strictly avoid this medication as it has been specifically formulated for use by men and is not safe for women. Pregnant or breast feeding women should avoid handling Propecia tablets, especially crushed or broken ones as the medication can get absorbed through the skin and result in complications for them as well as their unborn or lactating babies.

Men who lost hair due to chemotherapy should also avoid Propecia, as it can not help them in hair re-growth. Cancer patients should also avoid this hair loss treatment drug.

Find more information on Propecia at propeciaonline.co.uk and know how you can buy Propecia online that can really help you in hair loss control as well as hair regrowth! Moreover, all this service is available at your doorstep!

The Major Causes of Hair Loss in Women

There are already an increasing number of health conditions that pester the lives of many people and and one such condition is hair loss. You may think that this is not a serious problem but you'd better think twice. It may not be life threatening but it can cause a lot of embarrassment and some social awkwardness.

Hair loss is classified into different types. It is more commonly referred to as alopecia or baldness. You can't possibly treat it if you don't know the cause of the problem. This is the most common mistake many females commit when treating hair loss. They fail to identify the underlying causes of the problem.

Telogen effluvium is a common hair loss type which can occur in diffuse patterns. This condition exhibits hair shedding in the scalp and other parts of the body. Another type of hair loss has something to do with hormone production in the body and it is called androgenic alopecia. According to experts, this condition is largely brought about by the genetic predisposition of an individual. Androgenic alopecia is more noticeable in women when they reach their forties. 5 a-reductase and aromatase are the two enzymes that responsible for androgenic alopecia. In this condition, women experience hair thinning especially on the side and crown areas.

Alopecia areata affects about 2% of the United State's population. It is considered as one of the immune diseases that often begin with small circular bald patches. If left untreated, the small patches will lead to extensive and chronic hair loss.

Some women feel that they lost their feminine side because of alopecia areata so you must act on it immediately. Don't wait until it's too late and the condition is already noticeable. The blood cells, particularly the white ones, attack your hair follicles which causes your hair to shed in large quantities.

Slight hair thinning can still be tolerated by women but total loss of hair is terribly heartbreaking. Since alopecia cannot be cured, a lot of women spend large amounts of money to consult hair specialists and use popular hair loss products sold in the market. They are unaware that without proper identification of the root cause of the problem, no amount of products can restore their lost hair.

Unhealthy care for your hair can lead to hair loss. Washing, brushing, and too much combing can break your hair strands. You must therefore have good caring habits for your hair. Make sure that you take vitamins to keep your existing hair healthy to prevent further shedding.

Other treatments may include therapies like anthralin or topical immunotherapy. Then there are surgical procedures like hair replacement, scalp reductions, and hair transplantations. Some of the popular products sold in the market are Rogaine or Minoxidil, Propecia, and Dutasteride. There are also natural treatments that you can turn to like herbal remedies and other natural hair loss products. You can also start keeping your body healthy by getting the proper amount of exercise and eating a balanced diet. A healthy body will also lead to healthy and beautiful hair.

The causes of hair loss in women are somewhat similar to men but there are also specific causes like pregnancy and menopause. If these two are the major causes, then you will not need any form of medication because as soon as the body functions return to normal, the hair cycle will also be restored. Your hair will start to grow normally again.

Alopecia and Hair Replacement for African Americans

By: Travis Keeler

Hair loss can be devastating, whether you are male or female, regardless of race or ethnicity. Typical hair loss among men crosses the boundaries of race and culture. However, African American hair poses a particular set of challenges with regard to hair loss. Hair replacement clinics across the country note that while black men seem to suffer the same sort of male pattern baldness and challenges as Caucasian men, African American men and women seem to suffer a higher percentage of problems with hair loss for a variety other, culturally specific reasons. Hair replacement solutions to African American hair loss can be equally complex.

Every year, thousands of men and women of African descent struggle to resolve issues that have left them with receding hairlines and patchy balding spots. Many of these causes are due to hairstyling techniques that have become part of the African American culture, such as:

• Traction Alopecia - caused by braiding too tightly, long term use of corn-rows or tight pig tails in hair. This causes a constant tug on the root of the hair which eventually not only pulls it out, but can cause scarring on the scalp.

• Use of Chemical relaxers that contain lye (the same ingredient used in products like Draino) can actually cause chemical burns on the skin. Even the more natural relaxers use chemicals harsh enough to cause a burn.

• Use of hot combs or irons on the hair too close to the scalp, causing burns and scarring.

• Bleach-again, a harsh chemical not intended to come in contact with the delicate skin of the scalp.

What many people don't realize is that all of these procedures can, if done improperly, cause permanent hair loss due to scarring of the scalp. Once hair follicles are scarred, there is no resurrecting them. That hair is gone for good. Hair regrowing products like Propecia and Minoxidil will not regrow hair here.

Hair replacement experts understand the emotional toll this kind of loss can take on somebody suffering from hair loss. Not only does hair loss cause embarrassment, the self-esteem can take a nose dive as well. Janelle, a twenty-four year old African American woman, noticed that her hair had begun to recede around her hairline. She had worn pig tails as a child and as an adult, had begun chemically relaxing her hair. To save money, she decided to do it at home. The chemicals burned her scalp. Alarmed, Janelle discovered several bald patches the size of a half dollar on her crown. She saw her doctor and learned that Traction Alopecia was responsible for her hair loss around her hairline, and chemical burns were responsible for the now permanent hair loss on her crown. He sent her to a hair replacement specialist.

Janelle was dealing with three problems: Bald patches on the scalp and a receding hairline; but more importantly, her biggest problem was the toll the hair loss took on her self-esteem and emotional well-being. She considered surgical hair replacement, but this is a complex issue when it comes to black hair. Why?

• The cost is prohibitively high. And quite often, if simply doesn't work. Hair does not regrow in the density required.

• The formation of keloid tissue. Keloid scarring is a condition to which black skin is often prone. While skin on the scalp rarely forms keloid scar tissue, the skin on the forehead and face often will. So if a receding hairline is the issue, often surgical transplantation is not an option on black skin.

• Grafting is tricky - Black hair is curly not only above the skin but below, at the root as well. So the grafting of individual hairs is complex and often impossible.

In the end, she found an expert who specialized in high end hair replacement systems to restore her hair to it original state. Using breathable lace mesh and hand tied hairs, the hair replacement specialist matched Janelle's hair with real hair, then filled in the missing spots and her hairline with several hair systems to extend her hairline. The new hair blended in flawlessly with Janelle's own hair.

This hair system was not cheap either. A high end hair system that is virtually undetectable costs somewhere around $2500. But let's face it, nothing good is ever cheap. Nor was the hair system without maintenance. She had to adjust the color monthly and occasionally have new hair tied to replace hair that routinely shed from the hair system. But in the end, she couldn't be happier with her full head of hair. Restoring her hair has, made her less self-conscious and given her back her confidence. It's hard to put a price tag on that. Every year, hair replacement experts help thousands of people just like Janelle reclaim their lives with the help of hair replacement systems.

There are other hair replacement options available to those with spotty hair loss like Janelle. Hair extensions made with clips are temporary or removable hair systems that don't require glue to be fixed to the scalp. These are also made with high quality human hair in China and can blend invisibly with your own hair. If you have experienced hair loss and are looking for options, study hair replacement systems on the internet. Look for hair systems that are virtually undetectable, made of human hair, and have local clinics available for custom fitting.

The Challenges of Hair Replacement for Children with Alopecia

By: Travis Keeler

Excessive hair loss, or Alopecia, in children can have a devastating and unexpected impact on a child's self esteem, sending parents scrambling for Hair Replacement solutions. Though it's not very common for children to lose their hair, nearly 2 million children a year in the United States alone do. No one expects a young child to lose their hair, so when it happens; parents are often baffled and uncertain as to what to do. There are many causes for hair loss in children, most of them medical-related. Your first step when your child loses an excessive amount of hair is always to see your doctor first to rule out physical problems that might be causing hair loss before seeking a hair replacement solution. Also, research Alopecia advocacy organizations.

It should hearten parents to hear that 60% of children with Alopecia outgrow this condition on their own making long-term hair replacement solutions unnecessary. Often within a year or so. Unfortunately, that leaves the other 40% of children who will not have such a favorable resolution to this problem and requiring long-term hair replacement solutions. And even if it's only for a year, that time can leave serious scars on a child's self worth. Like adults, much of a child's identity is tied to his or her hair and appearance. Children who look 'different' can become the unwilling targets of other children's teasing. For parents who are watching their children go through this, finding a solution can become a consuming goal. Hair replacement experts can restore not only a child's lost hair, but their self-esteem as well. Hair pieces, wigs and nonsurgical hair systems fitted to look undetectable by an expert hair replacement clinic can provide the relief parents and children alike are looking for, even if the situation is only temporary.

Some of the most common causes of excessive hair loss in children requiring long-term hair replacement solutions are:

• Tinea capitis - is a contagious fungal infection of the scalp, also sometimes called scalp ringworm. No worms involved, but the fungus can cause hair to fall out by the roots in large round patches.

• Alopecia Areata - a mysterious hair loss that can range from small patches to complete hair loss. Some believe there is a genetic component here, as well as a connection to a nervous/ immune system condition in which the immune system itself attacks the root hairs.

• Traction Alopecia - comes from constant pulling of the hair too tight in hairstyles ranging from braids to pigtails. This can damage the root, causing hair to fall out.

• Trichotillomania - the compulsion to pull one's own hair out causing patchy hair loss.

Some of the most common causes of temporary hair loss in children requiring short-term hair replacement solutions are:

• Emotional stress, high fever or flu -can sometimes cause hair to fall out until the next growth phase when it begins to grow back.

• Chemotherapy/radiation treatments - this temporary form of Alopecia is caused by the intensive medications used to kill the Cancer.

Whatever the reason for the hair loss, it can take months, sometimes years for the hair to grow back the way it was before, making it necessary to utilize a short or long-term hair replacement solution. Human hair goes through growth cycles during which new hair begins to grow in after hair falls out, unless there one of the above conditions precludes regrowth. Normally that includes only 10% of the hair at any one time. But when something interferes with regrowth, hair loss which seemed gradual at first can pick up speed until there is a significant loss on the child's scalp.

So what is a parent to do? After treating the medical issues present, the emotional issues will inevitably crop up. Children do not like to feel different from their peers. Replacing the lost hair with hair pieces or wigs can be difficult if the hair pieces are poorly made. That's why most parents will spare no expense to make sure their child looks as natural as possible.

Wigs are one option. This might be especially good for a short-term hair loss. But wigs have their drawbacks. They are not attached to the head. They are hot to wear, and they do not appreciate contact sports or dips in the pool, lake or shower. These are the very activities children thrive on. So for kids, wigs can be one hair replacement option, but perhaps not the best.

Hair Systems are another fine hair replacement option. There are many hair replacement companies out there who sell hair systems on the internet with fit-them-yourself templates available on-line. These hair systems are less expensive but often disposable after three or four months of wear. Often these types of hair systems do not fit correctly and end up looking cheap or unnatural.

A thorough search of the Internet, however, will lead you to the more high-end hair systems from hair replacement companies that have local clinics, custom fittings and hair systems made of human hair tied on breathable lace caps that look not only natural, they are comfortable to wear. These full or partial hair systems are fixed to the scalp with some kind of adhesive that is usually worry-free for three months or more. There can be occasional intermittent clinic visits to retie hair lost through shedding, but the cost for these is usually around $100 - cheaper than investing in yet another disposable, cheap hair system. Children wearing these hair systems can bathe, swim and play hard in them without the worry that they will fall off or come loose. Essentially, they can live the life they had before they lost their hair and feel good about themselves at the same time. Clearly, that kind of peace of mind does not have a price tag.
